Frequently Asked Questions

Preparations
In order to ensure safe and efficient handling of your parts, North Texas Quality Chrome requests that all customers disassemble their parts 100% completely and make sure that they are clean and free of all grease and oil prior to shipping them to us.

Caution: If you are not a metal finisher by trade leave all of the grinding and sandblasting to the pros. This could damage your part and end up costing you more in time and labor. Occasionally, when parts are stripped and cleaned we find cracks, dents, and deterioration that you or we may not have noticed. We will notify you in this case.

Shipping us your parts
We recommend you use UPS or Fed Ex Ground for shipping your parts to us. Place an envelope inside the box that includes your name, daytime phone number, make and model of the parts. Please provide us with an accurate parts list, including each nut, bolt, and washers listed as separate parts. Note: all parts should be completely disassembled.

Before we start on your parts
Please allow us 2 to 3 days to unpack your parts, take pictures and inventory your shipment. We will call you with the price after this process has been completed. We will not start any work on your parts until we receive your approval first and a deposit of half down. If at this time you decide that you do not want us to perform your work for any reason, we will ship your parts back to you and you will need to pay the return shipping and handling.

How your order is priced
We determine prices based upon several factors: size, condition and the labor involved to complete the piece. For this reason, we do not provide pricing or estimates over the phone or via our web site because each part is different. Some plating shops will give you prices over the phone and sometimes once the work on your project has started, your price may double or triple after it is complete.

Plating of Pot Metal Parts
Pot metal requires a great deal of work and time to restore. We can sand out as many pits as possible, fill small cracks, then hand polish and file. From here your part will be copper plated then polished up to five times to fill and smooth the part. This is all before the part is nickel plated twice and then chrome plated. Plating of pot metal is truly an art and requires skill and experience. There are some parts that simply cannot be plated due to excessive deterioration. In this case we recommend the parts be replaced with better cores in order to achieve the best quality possible.

Plating of steel parts
Steel parts prices are based upon average to good condition. Parts that are badly pitted and rusted will be priced according to the amount of labor and time involved. Note: we request that all parts should be disassembled and completely free of grease and oil when they are sent to North Texas Quality Chrome.

Planning Ahead
We recommend that you plan ahead when sending us your plating work. Note that North Texas Quality Chrome completes your job in the order that it is received. It is important to not rush this process. We have always used the saying that “IF IT DOESN’T SHINE IT CAN NEVER BE MINE”

The shop completion time will vary on the size and type of job. Pot metal and show quality finishes take more time and great deal more work to complete. In order to continue to provide our customers with continued excellent service, please allow us to give you an estimated time of completion and we will complete the job by this time.

Installing your newly plated parts
At North Texas Quality Chrome we put a great deal of plating on your parts that is thicker than factory pieces. Always make sure to use washers under bolts and screws. Be very careful not to over tighten. By doing so you could actually crack the chrome around the holes. North Texas Quality Chrome is not responsible for improper installation using bolts and screws.

Waste treatment surcharge
Due to the rising cost of waste treatment, disposal, and consultation fees to meet and exceed federal, state, and local regulations, a 3% waste treatment surcharge is included on the total of every invoice. We have a full in house waste treatment facility and comply with all federal and state regulations to ensure a safe environment.
